On Sunday, February 15, Moscow has been under attack from drones almost since early morning. Airports in the Russian capital were closed, and falling debris was also recorded, according to Russian Telegram channels. Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported the alleged destruction of 18 drones, while emergency service workers continuously headed to the sites where debris had fallen. According to statements by Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, the Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports were temporarily restricted due to the threat of a drone attack. On the evening of February 15, the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, located on the border with Russia, were subjected to drone and missile strikes by the Ukrainian army. Local Telegram channels reported this. The main targets of the missiles and drones were energy infrastructure facilities. Belgorod Region Governor Vlyacheslav Gladkov said that a thermal power plant was damaged as a result of the missile attack, as a result of which part of the population was left without electricity. Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz also said that electricity was cut off as a result of the attack on energy facilities. Both governors noted that emergency crews were deployed to the scene. It is said that there were no casualties as a result of the incident. Footage taken by local residents and distributed on Telegram channels shows air defense systems being activated and explosions occurring. Local residents also confirm that residential areas are left without electricity. At the same time, heating has been stopped in homes. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, and Moscow regions were attacked by drones, and that air defense systems neutralized the drones. According to the Russian ministry of defense, Russian air defense systems shot down 102 drones over the Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, and Moscow regions. Ukraine regularly uses long-range drones to target military and industrial targets in Russia, including oil refineries, weapons factories, and ammunition depots. The strikes are part of Ukraine’s broader campaign of attacks inside Russia aimed at weakening Moscow’s ability to sustain its war against Ukraine.
