Iran Holds Massive Drone Exercise

Iran has held a major military drone exercise across the country, amid heightened tensions with the West over its nuclear program. (Jan. 6)

Video released by the army showed various drones being launched into sky and firing at targets.

Combat, surveillance and suicide drones were involved in the two-day operation.

The military said the exercise would be extended to some border areas, but did not specify where.

Recently, the United States dispatched B-52 bombers to the Persian Gulf in response to alleged Iranian attack plans, and reversed an order to bring home the USS Nimitz, the only U.S. aircraft carrier in the region.

On Monday, Iran announced it had resumed advanced uranium enrichment in violation of the 2015 nuclear deal, and also seized a South Korean-flagged oil tanker and its crew.
